You can apply to become a member of RAPs as long as you hold a recognised UK aquatic qualification.

RAPs recognises seven job roles across the aquatic industry. For Swimming teachers, entry to the Register will be dependent on the date you were awarded your Aquatic Teaching qualification. The only qualifications recognised as providing full membership to RAPs are:

  • Level 1 Award in Teaching Aquatics (QCF)
  • Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Aquatics (QCF)

To join the Register, all you have to do is complete our online application form which you can find at the bottom of this page. Please ensure you have the correct documentation shown below before you begin the application process.

Statement of Competency

ASA Swimming teachers who achieved their qualification before 1st January 2014 and would like to join the register can download a Statement of Competency for qualifications post 2001.

Statements are free of charge and must be completed by the swimming teacher’s current employer (or other equivalent role).

If you have obtained a teacher qualification through another organisation, please contact the respective organisation for further advice.

Dependent on the qualification you hold, associated costs to upskill will vary and are not within the remit of the Register.

Once the Statement of Competency has been signed off, upload it together with all other supporting evidence as detailed below:
